Spoiler Free Review:This is the second in the Holiday Bay Series. While it has many elements that Kathi is known for like her Writer's Retreat series this one is a little bit outside her normal trope. First of all this series needs to be read in order. There is more of tie from book to book with the long term plot a little stronger than normal in her books. So the short term mystery will be solved in the book but the long term ends with a bit of a cliff hanger.All of that aside I have been following Kathi pretty much since the beginning and I have never been disappointed in any of her books. I have to sit back and marvel in how she keeps so many series going and the writing fresh not to mention how she keeps the plots straight.Her books are well written, well edited and clean reads. No graphic descriptions of blood, gore and no graphic sex. There is always a hint of romance and the locations are crafted to be interesting and she populates them with people that for the most part you would want to meet.I was particularly taken with the start of this book. Simply because of the nature of the main characters loss of her family this series is a bit darker than some of her others and she deals with someone working through grief pretty well and in the case of the beginning of this book very eloquently.
At one point in this book it refers to Abby's late husband working on cold cases as one might the challenging Sunday Crossword Puzzle. I think author Kathi Daley must have a similar mind. When there is a mystery to be solved, she can not make it run start to finish. There are always intersections and connections and possibly unintentional coincidences that make detours a must. That is part of the reason I love her books and always look forward to the next one.She adds to our pleasure in this deep and twisty path with more mysteries than expected, new friendships and old family difficulties. There are romantic undertones, but it is the complicated yet intriguing mysteries that draw readers in. I also enjoy watching the renovations in progress as Abby and Georgia give new life to the old mansion and turn it back into an Inn. There are secrets between those walls yet to be discovered.Each book in this series allows us to become more attached to the main characters and introduces us to new ones. I enjoy the layers being peeled back. When truth is revealed it is not always what you expect.
The Inn at Holiday Bay: Letters in the Library is the second book in this series by Kathi Daley. Ms. Daley seamlessly connected the first book in this series to the second. Abby has decided to resume her career as an author while continuing the renovations on the conversion of her house to a B&B. In the process a parcel of old love letters was found in the library. Those letters led to numerous questions and mysteries. Who wrote the letters? When were they written? Who became pregnant? What happened to the baby? Is anyone still living who may have the answers to the questions that these letters brought to mind? How do all of the random pieces fit together? Throughout the book more questions arise leading Abby to assist Colt in solving a cold case that was initially ruled an accident. Information revealed has Abby delving into her deceased husband's past to find answers. This book has more emotional depth than many cozy mysteries giving it a real feel type of character development. There are multiple storylines which fit together well. Some have answers, others do not. Readers who appreciate complex mysteries will enjoy the book. Readers who prefer a single mystery may be disappointed. The book concludes with a number of additional characters who are likely to have significant roles, multiple avenues to expand the series and opportunities to delve further into the history of the house and community. I’m looking forward to next book in this series!!! There is a cliffhanger, yet I am excited to see how everything resolves. This is a great whodunit with a hint of what is to come. Lots of emotion, suspense, and a budding romance. Can't wait.
This book is the second in a new winning series by author, Kathi Daley. This book is complex with multiple story lines within the pages. It is wonderful and really keeps your attention. The lead character, Abby decides she is now resuming her authoring of books and while renovations to her home also continue, old love letters found in the walls captivate her. Who were these people, did they ever marry, was there a baby born and if so, what happens to the child? Abby is also drawn into a current murder mystery and finds that her deceased husband may have had a connection to the mystery. This connection brings questions to her regarding why her deceased husband never shared this information with her. This book takes you in various twists and turns which really add to your reading enjoyment. The book blends seamlessly with the first book in the new series and you just know the next volume will conjoin also.I really enjoy this new series and highly recommend it; as well as all of the Kathi Daley books.
