Very useful resource! Most information is still very useful for today. Much more reliable than most blogs today, too.
This book covers all aspects of Hawaii and is an excellent general guide to the Islands. Two subjects that could have be covered in depth are the native customs, and where to say away from. Just like in any city there are places you should avoid...that is unless you like drugs, trouble, and prostitutes. Once you get there, you'll figure it out. If you are in the military, a few locals have a strong dislike of you, which is covered in the book. For the most part the Hawaiian people are the sweetest people I have ever encountered. I highly recommend this book.
You've just arrived home from a vacation in the islands, your head is swimming with the fantastic scenery and island life, you're ready to pack your bags and move. This book is a must read, there is a tremendous amount of information in this book that most people wouldn't even think to find out about before moving, only to be hit with a very hard reality. The schools vary tremendously not only from island to island but city to city. It offers great information about schools, jobs, housing, cost of living, what to take when you move, and so much more. If you are considering making "the move", do yourself a favor and read this book!
If you're looking to move to Hawaii this covers the questions you'll want answered.It's a little out of date now or I'd give it 5 stars. For the most part it gives a heads up on what you can expect. Hopefully. We'll know more when we actually visit. :)
kinda basic.
As a "military brat" who lived in Hawaii when my father was stationed at Hickam AFB in the early 70s and a former airline employee who has visited Hawaii at every opportunity, I have recently acquired and read several books on this subject. (I've got the bug!) This is BY FAR the best of the bunch. It gives much of the same statistical information as the others but goes beyond the raw numbers with analysis and interviews with a variety of people who have actually DONE IT. Note to military: Excellent section on "Assignment Paradise."
This is for you if you are looking to move to Hawaii. Always good to be prepared and it's hard to be more prepared than you can be with this book.
This book has very details info and statistic. It gave a realistic view of life in Hawaii. I would have giving it 5 stars if the statistic is more current (2007). It was worth my money and I would recommend it to anyone who think of moving there.
