Luke Timothy Johnson has to be a voracious reader. I have best known him as a scripture scholar, and that aspect of his professionalism comes through in this book, but I was astounded at the breath of his reading in so many and widely different fields. The book is very challenging. He doesn't begin from dogmatic statements and positions but rather from bodily experiences. This calls for rethinking of much of what is put forth on sexual topics. The book shares many personal experiences over the life of the author. He easily moves from personal experience to beyond the self and into other people's experiences. I found this book to be engaging and provocative. I resonated with most of what the author was saying. I found it freeing and supportive of many of my own conclusions and thoughts.
In his clear and poetic style, Johnson again demonstrates why he is one of the most appreciated teachers of the New Testament.
