I took my text on May 30, 2017 and I passed all 4 subtests on the first attempt. I used this book as my main study source. I read the book at least 5 times front to back and took all of the practice tests multiple times. The exam consisted of a lot of situational based questions. There were questions that caught me off guard that were not in any of the materials that I studied. Here's what I remember: what are the 7 ancient wonders of the world? where do all cells come from? What state did we purchase from Spain? What do solids and liquids have in common? What is incomplete metamorphosis? Women's suffrage? In the 1800 why did people want to come to America? Know what type of rocks produce granite, marble, crystal, etc. What are the sunbelt, Great Plains, and bread basket states? How did the Mayans defeat the Native American Aztecs and mayans? How should the desks be arranged to facilitate cooperative learning?

I successfully passed the test this month. I had bought a few books, including a used copy of this one (2015 ed) to prepare. This book was the one with the best prep content overall, and the practice questionnaires are good; it was definitely the most useful, so that's the one I am reviewing. I have taken FTCE tests before, and I'm certified up the wazoo, so the format of questions was not a surprise. I was up to speed on everything except the maths: I was very weak at the outset and I knew it. I used Khan Academy's web site for the maths: I can't say enough good things about that site. I aced the other tests with plenty of time to spare, but on the maths test I finished with barely a couple of minutes left, and only because I rushed the last 15 minutes. I don't think I would have passed the maths with only the manuals, but again, I was testing at about 60% on the diagnostic test when I started preparing. Finally, there is one point I'd like to make: before posting a review about a prep book, take the exam first! It's a review, and it's for a prep book, and it's for an exam. The people who are reading the review are potential buyers who want to know if the prep book does what it is supposed to do, which is to prep you for the actual exam. Wait until you take the exam, and then review: that is the correct order of things. I hate to hammer it like a nail, but with most prep manuals reviews, it seems that 3/4 or more of reviewers have not taken the target exam.

I also just took the FTCE Elementary Ed exam. (4/2015) I've let my teaching certificate expire and needed to take this as part of reinstating my certification. I've been out of the classroom for 15 years, so--needless to say--I'm a little rusty on much of this information, especially the new methods and strategies that weren't around last time I was teaching. I used this book in conjunction with a (free) online module set up by the Florida Department of Education that serves as a review for this particular exam: http://www.fl-pda.org/ (You can register to the site even if you are not teaching yet.) I ended up passing all four sections of the test. I'm not giving this 5 starts because I'm not sure if I would have passed if I'd only used this book, but I did find the diagnostic and practice exams very helpful, and the subject information was very useful (although the online module went into MUCH greater depth.) This is exactly the cliffnotes model...you'll get a brief version of what you'll need to know, but if you want/need to go into more depth you'll need to use other resources. Good luck!

I read the reviews for this book so I was slightly apprehensive about it, considering a lot of reviewers said the book was a total of waste of time. That couldn't be further from the truth! I just took the test today and I passed (thank You G-d!!) and I found that a lot of information I had read in this book was on the actual test! Yes, the questions are VERY different on the test, but the content is almost the same. Besides this book, I also spent time taking and reviewing a free online test at this website [...]which I found to be very helpful. I'm really glad I bought this book, and its price is unbeatable! I also suggest learning where countries and oceans are on the map. The test is very challenging but I appreciated the time I spent studying this book. Also, take all the practice tests in the book! And if there's anything you read that you're not clear on, google it! Every bit of extra knowledge you have can only help. Good luck!

I took and passed this exam on June 6, 2016 and used this book as one of my main resources. Reading the reviews here made me VERY nervous about the exam! I was seriously scared that I was not going to pass at least one of the sections on my first attempt. Although I agree that this should not be your only resource, if you read this book, go over some of the practice tests available online (the FTCE K-6 exam booklet online has some examples and google for additional practice tests), and cover the review module at the professional development website, you will be very prepared for the test. I agree that not every single question on the exam was covered in these resources, but I would say more than 90% is covered if you study the book and go to the Florida professional development website and review the study module there.

I did not use this alone for studying for the k-6 test, but I am so happy that I bought it. It was easy to work through and I basically carried it everywhere for about 4 months. I hadn't taken any elementary education college classes. I researched and read what I could, but this cliff notes edition was the main source I studied from and I passed on the first try!!

This is my first review on Amazon ever. This book was awful! I studied it for days, every single page.I did not feel prepared in any of the subjects, mainly Social Science and Language Arts (which is typically my strongest subject area.) Unfortunately I read every one else's review on Amazon the morning of my test and came across someone's review on this page. I only had time to review the Science portion, and just so happens that was the only subject I passed (which, is my weakest subject.) In saying so:GO TO: www.fl-pda.orgIt's free to sign up and so informative!!!!
