I won't travel until next month but I feel like I have a good working knowledge of the city after reading the guide. The only major flaw I note before I travel is that there are not detailed directions on how to get to all of the attractions, sometimes you need a train, tram or ferry depending and they are not consistent with telling you at each attraction the best way to arrive. This may be more evident after I travel. The guide also contains suggested itineraries for 2, 3 and 5 days as well as some day trips out of the city.
I saw my first DK Travel Guide when on a trip to Germany and a fellow member of a guided tour had one. I borrowed it for a few minutes to examine it and was hooked.The color pictures are terrific, the explanations clear and well written, and the maps are just great. I took this with me on a recent trip in which I spent a total of 13 nights in Stockholm and used it virtually every day.
This product, like all the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides, gives a fabulous visual impression of the sites, history and geography of the locale. In that regard, there are no better products available. Personally, I find them exhilarating and informative -- but partly because I respond so strongly to visual information.If, on the other hand, the traveler wants more verbal data, more fulsome explanations are available in other resources. I don't regard the basic data as superior in those books, but they do give quite a lot more verbal information -- about recommended tours, lodging, food and more. Every time I travel abroad, I tend to look first for some preferred "verbal" guide -- Rick Steves, Fodor, Frommer, etc, -- and then whenever possible, I supplement that with a DK Guide. They're terrific, especially when used carefully.
We have several DK guides, and they are all produced with high quality. This is no exception. It's most useful for getting a general feel for the location you are visiting. I usually supplement it with another guide such as Rick Steves for more detailed recommendations.
The greatest travel guide. Full of picture with notes. Well aranged maps. Easy to follow. Easy to use. Full of information.You will no need another guide after using Eyewitness travel guide. Wery good for planning trip.
Good guide to Stockholm. Used it on our five day visit there. Great views and helpful information. Could have more information on hotels and places to eat since these are basic needs for the traveler.
A good travel book for Stockholm. It has all the essentials for a tourist.
